Rick G. Sorenson
Rick G. Sorenson, president of McDonald Sanders, brings more than 30 years of legal and financial experience to the firm along with a depth and breadth of knowledge and expertise seldom matched in the industry. To better serve the firm’s clients, he combines a substantial background in transactional and litigation matters.
Mr. Sorenson has been with McDonald Sanders since he was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1977.
During his tenure, Mr. Sorenson has assisted numerous clients in their growth and development, especially in the areas of business entity selection, organization, operation, acquisitions and sales. He has also represented manufacturers, banks and bank-holding companies, real estate and oil and gas interests, health care providers, auto dealerships, and one of the largest electric cooperatives in Texas.
His practice areas encompass contracting, contract disputes and litigation, and such related services as construction contracts, real estate sales, leases and development agreements, stock and asset purchase agreements, electric power servicing agreements, and oil and gas leasing and exploration agreements.
Mr. Sorenson’s practice extends to oil and gas development, leasing and land use agreements, as well as related litigation.
Mr. Sorenson has represented employers with respect to policies and procedures, including claims covering discrimination, workers’ compensation, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, tortious interference with and breach of contract, trade secrets and related issues.
He has also represented lenders and borrowers throughout his career. Representation in this area has ranged from the organization of banks and bank-holding companies, related stock offerings, reorganizations, and governance issues, to loan documentation and bond offerings.
Mr. Sorenson has assisted clients with a wide range of legal aspects of health care delivery and regulatory compliance issues involving state and federal regulatory agencies. His work within the nursing home industry has included one of the major reorganizations of nursing home holdings in Texas, with representation in landlord/tenant issues, ownership transfers and related licensure and regulatory issues.
Representation has included the operational and regulatory issues related to auto dealerships, dealership transfers and licensure.
Mr. Sorenson is a 1974 graduate of Texas Tech University, with a Bachelor of Business Administration, finance, degree with honors. He earned his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law.
