Russell A. Devenport

Russell A. Devenport, a shareholder and director with McDonald Sanders, was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1998. Prior to joining McDonald Sanders, he served as a briefing attorney for the Hon. Mary Lou Robinson of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas. During his two-year tenure with the Court, Mr. Devenport was involved in civil litigation, criminal law and death penalty habeas corpus.

Mr. Devenport practices primarily in the area of commercial/business and bankruptcy litigation, representing clients in state and federal courts. Among other matters, he has represented both homeowners and homebuilders in construction disputes in state courts and before the Texas Residential Construction Commission and, along with Richard C. DeBerry, represented a short line railroad in various disputes in federal court. (see PCI v. Fort Worth and Western Railroad, 418 F.3d 535; 5th Cir. 2005). Before bankruptcy courts, he has represented commercial landlords, manufacturers and other businesses as creditors in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, defended Chapter 11 Trustee preference actions, prosecuted adversary proceedings for debt dischargeability determinations, and defended a large Chapter 7 debtor in multiple arbitration proceedings through the American Arbitration Association in connection with claims administered through the bankruptcy court.

A 1992 graduate of The University of Texas at Arlington, Mr. Devenport received a Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, in history. After college, he spent two years with the Texas Department of Human Services. He then earned a law degree, magna cum laude, from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1998.
