Russell was admitted to practice in Texas in 1998. He is a member of the Tarrant County Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Order of the Coif. He is also a member of the Federal Bar Association and has served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Fort Worth Chapter.

Before joining McDonald Sanders, Russell served two years as briefing attorney for the Honorable Mary Lou Robinson of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. He is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas. He is also admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.

Russell practices primarily in the area of business and bankruptcy litigation, including representing creditors and lessors in Chapter 11 cases, prosecuting non-dischargeability proceedings and defending trustee preference actions.

Russell is on the board of directors for the Dallas Jazz Orchestra.
